This article covers the verification of Dolby encoded audio and video bitstreams before delivery. Best practices for verifying and monitoring Dolby content are suggested, and sample workflows and tools are shared.

File-Based Verification and QC (VOD Content)

For VOD services, the source files are first encoded and then packaged into MPEG-DASH or HLS streaming formats for HTTP delivery. Ideally audio/video files should be checked against any errors before packaging. Also, the packaged DASH and HLS content should be validated before sending it to the end-users. An example workflow that includes audio video verification and stream validation capabilities can be implemented as in below diagram.

The table below summarizes some common verification and validation tools that support Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, EC-3, AC-4, DASH, and HLS formats.

Linear Verification and QC (Live Content)

For live services, encoded audio and video signals should be monitored against any errors before packaging. Also, the packaged live DASH and HLS live streams should be validated before delivery to end-users. An example workflow that includes audio/video monitoring and stream validation capabilities can be implemented as in the diagram below.
